God's Little Princess Devotional Bible by Sheila Walsh

Devotional Bibles do not usually impress me. Too often Christians spend more time reading about the Bible than actually reading it. I am as guilty of this as anyone and so I usually do not pay much attention to devotional Bibles. I didn't really expect “God's Little Princess Devotional Bible” to be much different, but, having a 7 year old princess of my own, I felt compelled to check it out.

The book design is adorable; my daughter's eyes lit up as soon as she started looking through it. It paraphrases stories from the Bible; providing devotional thoughts about each story. The stories tend to focus on women in the Bible who had to be brave, honest or full of faith.

Sprinkled between the stories and devotional thoughts are songs to sing and activities. Some stories have been turned into plays that can be acted out providing plenty of opportunity for dramatic expression by the little princess. Currently, my princess and I have only gotten about one-fifth of the way through it, but I can tell already that we're going to have a lot of fun along the way.

It was my daughter's reaction that won me over to the book, though. On our third night I fell asleep early, the result of a tiring day. After dozing for about 30 minutes I was awakened to the sound of my princess' voice. “Daddy, don't forget we need to do our Bible reading!” I was more than happy to oblige!
