I'm Not Dead Yet!

For some reason Monty Python has been on my mind today. I've uttered phrases such as "This bird's dead!" and "I'd like to buy an argument" both in one day. It is not unusual for me to get into a Monty Python mood, but it did seem odd today since the weeks have been so busy lately.

However, one Monty Python phrase seems incredibly in tune with how I feel lately: "I'm not dead yet!"

For those of you who have not been enlightened by a viewing of The Holy Grail, I will explain the background. In The Holy Grail a poor chap is being carried out to the "Dead Pile" so he can be collected for burial. The poor guy keeps telling his carrier, "I'm not dead yet!"

That is exactly how I feel. The past few weeks have flown by. The days have been so busy I barely know if I completed everything I set out to do. (That would require remembering everything I set out to do- which I haven't mastered lately.) At the end of the day I fall into bed hoping to get a good nights sleep and start catching up the next morning. This could barely be called living.

But the few, brief moments when my kids come and give me a hug; watching my son balance on one leg while playing second base and hearing my wife say "I love you" remind me that I am not dead yet. There is still life in me. I just have to find the right priorities to come alive. I feel like the Train song- Don't give up on me I'm "About to Come Alive".

“I’m not dead yet!“

Of course just as I start to feel better, cheer up and get a renewed determination to put things in order, I am reminded of the response from the man who is carrying our not-yet-dead chap:

"Shut up! Ye will be!"
