Visiting Maw Maw

Today we went to visit Maw Maw in the hospital. I thought the kids would complain about having to go in at the hospital, but neither of them said a word about it. They were well behaved and I think they made her feel better.

Katie said the books of the Bible from Genesis up to Job. Jaden quoted Psalm 100 for her. Both of these events seemed to raise her spirits a bit.

Hunter was not saying much and I could tell that he was a bit disturbed at seeing Maw Maw in the hospital. I wondered if his concern was due to the fact that the last person he saw in the hospital was Grammie and she never went home from there.

It was about this time that Maw Maw said the sweetest thing I think I have ever heard someone tell a little boy.

She said, "Hunter, if I could have just one wish for you, I would wish you were exactly who you are."

That thought made me want to cry. Every man and boy struggles with not being good enough- with not measuring up. To hear someone say we are exactly who we should be means a lot.

And she is right. Hunter is a sweet, loving, tenderhearted boy. He is smart. He is funny. He is respectful of adults. He works hard to do what we ask of him. He takes care of his brother and sister. And he is compassionate of other children that are sad or hurting. He is a very special boy and is perfect being who he is.

Thanks, Maw Maw, for pointing that out.
