Travel Blog

This section of the site contain ramblings about places I have been and places that I want to go. I will attempt to make each post focus on one specific place, but I cannot make any promises.

For me, travel is exciting because of the different cultures that are encountered. I am always fascinated to learn how a group of people think. Having studied culture during my MBA in Global Enterprise Management I have learned to look for clues to understanding culture. Clues can be found in the physical attributes such as personal space, views regarding the use of hands and touching. Clues can also be found in language such as figures of speech or proverbs.

I will elaborate more in future posts. For this post let me merely state that I can related well to the character in O'Henry's classic tale "A Cosmopolite in a Cafe." I can relate to the main character, E. R. Coglan, in his desire for universal citizenship. At the same time I can also related to his uncharacteristic love for the small area of the world which I call home. To be at once infatuated with the wonder that this wide world has to offer and enamored with this tiny area where I grew up is a paradox of mankind in today's globalized world.
