Dive Certification

I began diving in February 2002. I had always been curious about scuba diving, but had never pursued it. In 2002 I found my self in the Philippines for a seven-week trip for work. A friend that had lived there for a while encouraged me to sign up so I did. My dive instructor was Dennis Borja. (In case you ever read this, Hi Dennis!)

During that trip I was able to get my basic Open Water certification and log about eight or ten dives. I will post some of my experiences in separate entries to this section of the site. Fortunately, I found myself in the Philippines for several extended trips that year and was able to continue diving. I eventually got my Advanced Open Water certification. Ziggy was my instructor for that class. (Hi Ziggy!) The trip we made for my advanced certification was a blast and will occupy several postings in this category.

Diving is incredible in many ways. Being underwater is like being on another planet. I never cease to be amazed at what I see under the water. Diving is also about people, though. Many of my greatest diving memories center around the people I met. I do not get to dive as often as I would like, but hopefully that just makes me enjoy it even more when do find the opportunity.
